A number of exciting
developments continue concerning the Archives and its related projects.
So far in 2005 alone:

The Archives web site
premiered in June, here at
www.IowaBroadcasting.com.

Hundreds of electronic
transcription discs dating to the 1930s and hundreds more reel-to-reel
tapes were donated to the Archives by legendary Des Moines radio
station WHO in May. This includes many wartime broadcasts by Jack
Shelley and Herb Plambeck, and hundreds of sporting events called by
Jim Zabel.

KWWL-TV in Waterloo donated
hundreds of video tapes and cans of film dating back to the middle
1970s, including special programs, sporting events, and news reports.

Broadcasting hall of famer
Grant Price announced a bequest to Wartburg College valued at $2
million, part of which will go to support the Archives.

The R.J. McElroy Trust
board of trustees authorized a grant to support production of a video
documentary and book concerning the history of the Black Hawk
Broadcasting Company. The project is now underway, and is expected to
be completed in 2007.

The Archives of Iowa
Broadcasting National Advisory Board held its second organizational
meeting in March.

A team of student interns
began work to help collect and catalog items, thanks to a pilot
project funded by the R.J. McElroy Trust. Four students worked in
winter and May 2005; another four are expected to work during the
summer; with another two-four students to continue work in the fall.
