BIOGRAPHIES: Cary J. Hahn

Cary J. Hahn began his broadcasting career in his hometown of St. Charles, Missouri, at Lindenwood College. After attending the college for two years, he worked for the college radio station before moving to Indiana where he graduated from the Defense Information School at Fort Benjamin Harrison.

During the Vietnam War, Hahn served with the Armed Forces Radio and Television aboard the USS Hancock aircraft carrier off the coast of Vietnam and later on the island of Kodiak, Alaska.

In 1983, Hahn began his 25-year career with CBS channel 2 in Cedar Rapids. As the CBS 2 Iowa Traveler, Hahn would report on more than 5,000 stories throughout Iowa and beyond. His coast-to-coast travels were included, as was a trip to Canada.

Hahn was recognized numerous times as the Iowa Traveler, winning awards from the Associated Press, United Press, Iowa Broadcast News Association, Northwest Broadcast News Association, the 2004 Stanley Foundation Global Connections Award, the Iowa Film Award for feature reporting and the Iowa Motion Picture Award for general reporting.  In 2006 he was awarded the Jack Shelley Award for career achievement, the highest honor bestowed by the IBNA. In 2008 the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library-Museum presented Hahn with a National Archives Certificate of Appreciation.

During his time at KGAN, Hahn served as co-host for local segments of the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Telethon.  He also served as president of IBNA from 2004 to 2005.

In early 2008 Sinclair Broadcast Group, owner of KGAN, acquired Fox affiliate KFXA-TV, resulting in a merger that would shake up the foundation of KGAN.  In the wake of the merger, personnel were moved around, including Hahn.
Currently, Hahn serves as News Director for KMRY Radio in Cedar Rapids.
