After graduating from the University of Missouri’s School of Journalism in 1976, Dave Busiek moved to Des Moines where he spent three years as a reporter and anchor for WHO-Radio.
For the past 15 years of his 25 year career with KCCI in Des Moines, Busiek has served as news director. In his early years, he reported and co-anchored the 10 p.m. news with Kevin Cooney.
Busiek spent 12 years on the board of directors of the Radio-Television News Directors Association. In 2003, he received the Rob Downey Citation for his leadership of RTNDA during the days immediately following September 11, 2001.
Also in 2003, Busiek was the recipient of the Jack Shelley Award from the Iowa Broadcast News Association, honoring his career contributions to broadcast journalism in the state of Iowa.
In 2004, KCCI, under the direction of Busiek, received the Edward R. Murrow Award for Overall Excellence, a national honor.
Busiek currently serves on the National Advisory Board of the Drake University School of Journalism and Mass Communication and chaired the Radio-Television News Directors Foundation, on which he currently continues to be on the board.
