Archives Holdings: WHO Radio Collection

     In May 2005, a collection of transcription discs from the archives of WHO Radio was donated to the Archives. This material dates back to the 1930s and includes both national and local programs and commercials. There are more than 1,000 discs in this collection.

     The station donated the rest of its audio collection to the Archives. This includes reel-to-reel and cassette tapes, as well as documents and photos from the history of WHO-AM and its sister FM stations. An extension collection of sports play-by-play is included, as well as a complete set of tapes from the historic Des Moines flood of 1993.  More than 2,500 tapes, in a variety of formats, are included.
     The collection has been entered into a series of databases, sorted by the format of the recording, as follows:
